December 31, 2009NEW CASTLE, Pa. ? New Castle Police say a baby nursery inside the home at 427 Galbreath St. served as another kind of nursery, too: a room where residents were growing and nurturing marijuana plants.

Police say they discovered the sophisticated pot growing operation during a Tuesday raid. According to investigators, the plants were being grown in a closet in the baby's room when state, federal, Lawrence County and local authorities raided the house.

Police seized four marijuana plants from the closet along with six bags of pot packaged for sale, some crack cocaine, a 9mm handgun, seven scales coated with suspected cocaine residue, three police scanners, a video surveillance camera and other paraphernalia.

The baby has been placed with her grandparent.
