Baseball: Titans Split in Nine-Inning DH

FORT PIERCE, Fla. - The Westminster baseball team split their doubleheader today in Fort Pierce, FL. The Titans lost game one vs. Misericordia, 14-8, and won game 2 vs. Elizabethtown, 6-2. The Titans improved 6-2 on the season.
Junior Ron Sullivan (Boardman, OH / Canfield) was on the mound for the Titans in game one. He took the loss after going 3.2 innings and giving up nine runs (eight earned). Misericordia jumped out to an early lead in the second inning when it put up six runs and added another five in the fourth. Senior Kyle Allen (New Wilmington, PA / West Middlesex) led the Titan offense going 2-4 with two RBI.
In game two senior Scott Hanicak (Elwood City, PA / Laurel) got the win for the Titans, his second of the year. He went 7.2 innings strong with six strikeouts and just two runs (one earned). Classmate Nick Grow (North East, PA / North East) came into the game in the eighth inning with bases loaded and closed the game to earn his fourth save of the year after finishing the final 1.1 innings of the game.
Senior Eric Dunn (Freeport, PA / Freeport) led the offense for Westminster. He went 3-4 and added two RBI. The Titans jumped out to an early lead in the second on a single by sophomore Duncan Watt (Pickering, ON, Canada / Dunbarton) that drove in two runs. Westminster put up another three runs in the seventh inning to put the game away after RBI singles by Dunn and Ty Miller (Clinton, PA / Hopewell).
