NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) - New Castle police say a man was under the influence of an unspecified depressant and a narcotic painkiller when he drove his pickup truck into a yard, killing a 7-year-old Lawrence County boy and injuring a 9-year-old boy.

Police say 66-year-old Virgil Coonfare faces charges of homicide by vehicle while driving drunk, aggravated assault and other counts in Sunday afternoon's death of Octavius Stone. An autopsy showed he died of chest trauma.

The other boy struck, Emil Velez, was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital where he was in good condition Monday.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Coonfare, who remained jailed Monday without bond. He faces a preliminary hearing Dec. 5.

Police say Coonfare drove onto the sidewalk, up and embankment and through the front yard of two homes about 2:15 p.m.
