Cross Country: Sutton Breaks 28-Year Old School Record in 8K at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio - Junior Aaron Sutton (Warren, Ohio/Howland) broke the Westminster College men's cross country team's 28-year old school record for the 8-kilomeers with a 42nd-place time of 25:20.2 at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble Saturday. The Titan women placed 25th out of 30 teams with 676 points while the Titan men placed 27th out of 32 teams with 787 points.
Sutton's time eclipsed Jeff Huff's time of 26:01 set in 1984.
The next highest finisher for the Titan men was junior Kyle Filicky (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary) with a 201st-place time of 27:33.8.
Geneseo St. won the men's standing with 55 points. Franciscan's William Jones won the race at 23:31.0 for the second-straight year.
Sophomore Jenny Jones (Erie, PA / Fort LeBoeuf) paced the Titan women with a 6-kilometer time of 23:52.8 for 122nd-place out of 270 runners. Junior Maggie Backstrom (Butler, PA) was the next Titan finisher for the women with a 148th-finish with a time of 24:17.2.
Oberlin won the women's standing with 65 points. Washington & Jefferson's Kristen Galligan won the race at 21:09.3.
Westminster will compete at the 2012 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships Oct. 27 at Bethany.
