Cross Country: Sutton Wins Bethany Invitational

BETHANY, W.Va. - Westminster history was made at the Bethany Invitational on Saturday as junior Aaron Sutton (Warren, OH/Warren) finished first out of 60 runners for the men's cross country team becoming the first Titan runner to win a meet in 10 years. As a team, the men's finished third out of six teams with 90 points, while the women's finished fourth out of seven schools with 94 points.
Sutton finished in a time of a 26:58, followed by junior Kyle Filicky (Poland, OH/Poland) who finished in 13th (28:57). Rounding out the finishers for the men were senior Josh Caldwell (Cambridge Springs, PA / Cambridge Springs),(22nd/29:45), freshman Cody Schreiber (Johnsonburg, PA),(23rd/29:59), freshman Anthony Yasko (Pittsburgh, PA), (31st/31:59), and sophomore Nick Hainsey (New Paris, PA), (37th/34:16).
Sophomore Jenny Jones (Erie, PA / Fort LeBoeuf) led the women's with a sixth-place finish in the time of 24:35. Also making the top-20 were seniors Olivia Miller (Freedom, PA / Freedom), (18th/25:39), and Sydney Spain (Batavia, IL / Batavia), (19th/25:42). Rounding out the competitors for the women were senior Morgan Swartz (West Middlesex, PA / West Middlesex), (25th/26:17), senior Alyssa Cauley (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin), (26th/26:23), junior Erin Sullivan (Aurora, OH / Aurora), (31st/26:59), and sophomore Kristine Haggerty (Pittsburgh, PA / Thomas Jefferson), (32nd/27:13).
The Titans will compete at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational next Saturday.
