NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — Four New Castle police officers have returned to normal duty now that a prosecutor has determined they were justified in shooting an armed man earlier this month.

That man, 43-year-old Ivy Lanthier Jr. on Tuesday remained in critical condition at a Youngstown hospital where he's been since the incident just after midnight Oct. 12 in New Castle.

The four officers who shot at Lanthier returned to regular duty after Lawrence County District Attorney Joshua Lamancusa announced Monday the shooting was justified.

Lanthier is charged with aggravated assault, unlawful restraint and other crimes for reportedly holding his daughter's boyfriend at gunpoint and firing shots into the ceiling before he stepped into the doorway with guns drawn at police.
