Diversity Services Office Announces Black History Month Activities

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.-- Westminster College will celebrate Black History Month with a series of programs that are free to the public.

The events are sponsored by the Office of Diversity Services.

 
Hip Hop: Rhyme or Reason is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12, from 6-8 p.m. in the Berlin Student Lounge of McKelvey Campus Center.  This is an introspective look at understanding the genre of rap music, its origin and purpose. The event is co-sponsored by the Black Student Union.

 
Step in the Name of Love is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 14, from 6-9 p.m. in Berlin Lounge of the McKelvey Campus Center.  The event features a Valentine Soul Food dinner and the Thiel College Step Group. 
 
African-American History: Past, Present and Future is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 26, from 6-8 p.m. in Berlin Lounge of the McKelvey Campus Center. This is a showcase of Westminster College's African-American alumni and presently enrolled students.

 
Alumni and current students expected to participate include: Omadee Curry `02, Syreeta (DeFrance) Poindexter `06, Talia Hullum `11, Akesha Joseph `08, Joselyn Parker`07 and Jarrett Samuels `94.

 
Alijah Buckham, a junior accounting major, is a son of Sherry Buckham and a graduate of McKeesport Area High School.

 
Thomas Fields, a junior English major, is a son of Sharon Fields of Youngstown and a graduate of Chaney High School.

 
Brittni Anderson, a freshman biology major, is a daughter of Grady Burton and Tyree Anderson of Clarence, N.Y, and a graduate of Williamsville East High School.
