Football: 2012 Season in Review

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College football team posted a 3-6 record in 2012 and a 2-6 mark for eighth place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). The Titans opened the 2012 season with a statement 28-0 victory over Hiram. Westminster also recorded wins over PAC opponents St. Vincent and Bethany. Four of the Titans' six losses were by one possession deficits.


The Titans showcased a new quarterback under center in 2012 in junior transfer Dak Britt (Battle Creek, MI/Battle Creek). Voted team MVP and newcomer of the year for the Titans, Britt posted 1,386 passing yards, 11 TDs, and eight interceptions. He ranked third in the PAC in total offense with 1951 yards.


With the leadership of eighth-year head coach Jeff Hand, five Titan players earned spots on All-PAC teams.


Senior defensive back Kyle Allen (New Wilmington, Pa./West Middlesex) was the lone Titan to earn first-team all-PAC honors. Allen was recognized on the first-team for the first time in his career. Allen also received honorable mention recognition as a returner.


A four-year starter, Allen earned second team all-PAC honors in the 2010 and 2011 seasons. He recorded a team-high three interceptions, including a 92-yard touchdown return in the season finale against Geneva. Allen also posted 31 tackles, eight pass defenses and two blocked kicks.


Four other Titans were voted second team all-PAC. They included senior offensive lineman Marco Canello (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton-LaSalle), senior wide receiver Geno Pasquinelli (Salem, Ohio/Salem), junior defensive lineman Sean Christofferson (New Wilmington, Pa./Wilmington) and senior linebacker Derrick Orloski (Butler, Pa./Slippery Rock).


Canello, a two-year starter, earned his first all-PAC selection in 2012. Canello was a key contributor to the Westminster's rushing game who ranked fifth in the PAC averaging 157 rushing yards a game and topped the conference with 4.7 yards a carry.


Pasquinelli earned his third all-PAC honor in 2012. He was a second-team selection in 2010, and a first-team honoree in 2011. Pasquinelli made his mark in the career receiving record books, finishing third all-time in receptions with 139, tied for fourth in touchdowns with 19, and 10th in receiving yards with 1521.


Christofferson, a third-year starter earned his first all-PAC selection after being named an honorable mention selection last season. He recorded 43 tackles on the season, second among all defensive lineman and ends in the conference.


Orloski also earned his first all-PAC selection after being named an honorable mention performer in 2011. His 60 tackles on the season ranked him 13th in the PAC and third on the team.
