Over 60 years ago, Dorothy Pollock came to Westminster as a student where there was no student union and sorority living took you off campus.
The 1946 graduate currently lives right across the street from her alma mater in the Shenango on the Green complex. An active Westminster volunteer, Pollock received her honorary doctorate from the college for her service.
WCN 24/7's Scott Lawrence sat down with Pollock to discuss what college life was like in the 1940s.
More than 4,200 prospective students have applied to Westminster College as of March 8, which is a nine percent increase over last year's record-breaking year and more than three times the number of applicants in 2006-07.
Westminster has also set a record with more than 1,000 prospective students visiting campus this year.
College officials say Westminster's reputation for academic standards and job placement stands out for prospective students looking for a college.
One of the oldest and most peculiarly named buildings on campus leaves many to wonder what stories this structure has to tell. When was it built? How was it used? And what's with the number 77? Built in 1922, Old 77 used to be the main building for varsity athletics on campus. Complete with a basketball court, a track, and even a swimming pool, the New Gym, as it was known back then, was truly a spectacle for its time.

The company trying to develop a Lawrence County harness racetrack and casino has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Centaur LLC says normal operations will continue at it's resorts and casinos in Colorado in spite of the bankruptcy filing on Sunday.

Fire officials in Mercer County say a malfunctioning fan may have caused the blaze that destroyed the historic Wendell August Forge that made ashtrays for the ill-fated German airship the Hindenburg and did custom work for Walt Disney.
The blaze started at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the workshop at the forge, where bronze pieces such as awards and trophies were being made.
Wendell August president Will Knecht said the company planned to rebuild "as soon as possible," and in the meantime operations would continue online and at the firm's other locations in Exton, Pa., and Berlin, Ohio.

A number of viruses and malware programs are jumping back and forth from portable devices and PCs, and some are infecting computers with killer programs.

At Westminster College, there are no formal rules on cell phones and texting in classes. Walk around the Tub and you can quickly see students typing away at their cell phone keys. Texting is clearly an integral part of communication for many on our campus.
