Lawrence Co. man faces charges of threatening WC student

Posted Monday, November 24, 2008 NEW WILMINGTON, Lawrence County-- New Wilmington police say a Neshannock Township man faces charges of making threatening telephone calls to a Westminster College student. Police say 26 year old Richard R. Glass will go to court on December 17 for a preliminary hearing for allegedly stalking and making terroristic threats.

College Announces December Grads

The end of fall semester marks a new beginning for some 40 Westminster College students who officially meet graduation requirements. College officials say the students meet the terms for completing degrees for December graduation. However, since Westminster does not hold any December ceremonies for graduation, the students are encouraged to participate in May's commencement activities.

Saturday, November 29 , 2008 NEW YORK-- Westminster alumnus and Monster.com founder and former CEO Andrew McKelvey died Thanksgiving morning in New York after battling pancreatic cancer. The 74-year old McKelvey was also a philanthropist. The McKelvey Foundation has supported over 600 students to attend colleges across the country.

The natatorium at Memorial Field House saw some 110 students show up on Saturday, September 5, for a chance to pass the final swimming proficiency test. Those who passed won a waiver for the college required aquatics course.

The college will now no longer offer the "test out" option, meaning all students must complete a swimming class in order to graduate.
Each WC student must completed a swimming class before she or he can receive a degree.

Passing an aquatics course is part of a tradition of teaching young men and women a life-long skill.

Chem Students Develop Potentially Patentable Product

"This wasn't a traditional chemical analysis research project, but it was still a great learning experience for the students," Dr. Helen Boylan, associate professor of chemistry said.

Westminster College students in a chemical analysis class have developed a "Mole Balance," a potentially patentable product, under the supervision of Dr. Helen Boylan, associate professor of chemistry and a 1995 Westminster graduate.

Season's First Winter Weather Advisory

NEW WILMINGTON, Lawrence County-- The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory from 6 p.m. Thursday through 6 p.m. Friday. Snow fell in New Wilmington throughout Thursday with about two inches falling in a few hours in the afternoon. Crews worked to keep sidewalks and parking lots cleared at Westminster College while New Wilmington street crews also hit the road.
