Amish carpenters and other local volunteers saved the day for the wheel at the historic Volant Mill in Lawrence County. Volant Mill officials say earlier efforts to repair and renovate the old wheel failed. That's when Amish crews removed the old wheel damage caused by weather and time.

The Scottish Rite Cathedral will be named to the National Register of Historic places. A press conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday at the cathedral. U.S. Representative Jason Altmire will make the announcement that the U.S. Department of the Interior has accepted the addition.

"Altmire Amendment" Protects Sportsmen's Rights

A proposal written by US Congressman Jason Altmire to protect sportsmen's right to hunt, fish, and trap on millions of acres of public land is set to become law. The proposal is made in response to the Omnibus Public Land Management Act passed by the House yesterday. Without Altmire's Amendment, the Land Management Act could have allowed federal lands to be closed to sportsmen.

An 11-year old Lawrence County murder suspect will now face a jury. The boy entered his preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon in shackles and handcuffs with little emotion on his face. A courtroom packed with media and dozens of relatives of the deceased Kenzie Houk and the accused Jordan Brown sat through 10 witnesses and nearly two hours of testimony.

State police continue to search for answers in the death of a 19-year old Lawrence County man was found dead in his truck in Shenango Township early Wednesday morning.

Man Accused Off Running School Bus Off The Road

A Lawrence County man faces a preliminary hearing on Thursday on charges he forced three vehicles, including a school bus, off the road before striking a fourth while driving under the influence. State police say 39-year old David Singleton of Enon Valley is charged with careless driving, exceeding the speed limit, failure to stop at a stop sign, disregarding traffic lanes, failure to keep right, operating a vehicle without the required financial responsibility, accident involving damage to an attended vehicle and driving under the influence.

Guilty Plea In Mercer County Fuel Syphoning Case

An Ohio asphalt and trucking company owner has admitted he used a hidden vacuum system in a rigged truck and trailer to syphon off thousands of dollars in diesel fuel from a Mercer County convenience store. A judge has yet to schedule sentencing for 57-year-old Larry Donaldson who has pleaded guilty to the stealing 3,000 gallons of fuel he used for personal use. He has agreed to pay $10,150 in restitution.

Police Continue Investigating Stabbing Death

State police and Shenango Township police now have preliminary information for autopsy reports as they continue the investigation into the stabbing death of 19-year old man in Shenango Township on Tuesday morning. Police say they found the body of 19-year old Thomas Nail of New Castle after they responded to a reported fight.

School Bus Hit By Van in New Wilmington

New Wilmington police say a minivan collided into a school buss on Monday, but no one was hurt. According to police, a 17-year old Volant teen, Tyler A. Peffer, drove his vehicle onto North Market Street from Landon Avenue and into the driver's side of the school bus.

State police say a Mercer County man who fired a gun at state troopers has been shot and killed.

State police Capt. Scott Neal says troopers accompanied a mental health caseworker to the home of 45-year-old Walter McGarvey Jr.

Lawrence County Pair Accused Of Running Meth Lab

A New Castle man and woman face charges for running a meth lab from their home where they lived with three small children. Pennsylvania Attorney General Tom Corbett says police arrested the two for allegedly making and distributing methamphetamine in Butler and Lawrence counties.

Troopers On Leave During Fatal Mercer Co. Shooting Probe

Two state troopers remain on administrative leave while police investigate the fatal shooting of a mentally ill man. State police in Mercer County say the troopers shot at 45-year-old Walter McGarvey Jr. on Friday afternoon after he couldn't be subdued with a stun gun and fired a gun at police.

Lawrence County Man Faces Animal Cruiety Charges

A Lawrence County pet owner faces animal cruelty charges after his two pit bulls were found starved to death. New Castle police say the dogs were chained to a tree out of reach from food and water.
