Wilmington Area High School football star Derrick Burns will return to Greyhound Stadium for another football season for his senior year this fall, however the running back and linebacker will head to the University of Pittsburgh in 2010. Burns will receive a full ride to the University by joining the Panther football squad after graduating high school following in the footsteps of his older brother and Pitt running back Chris Burns. The younger Burns has given his verbal commitment to Pitt. In fact, he was the first commitment for 2010 the Panthers received.

The Wilmington area community will gather at Greyhound Stadium on Friday night to celebrate homecoming. The defending Class AA state football champs take on Mercer County rival, Hickory. .
While all the festivities will focus on homecoming, one of Wilmington's football star senior players, Derrick Burns, will miss the game.
October 17, 2009 NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College volleyball team lost its first home conference match since September 21, 2006 on Saturday as the Titans saw its 22-match home win streak in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) come to end with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-21, 25-13) loss to Thomas More.
The Westminster College football team won a consecutive conference game for the first time since 2003 as the Titans defeated Bethany, 31-28, on the road Saturday in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.
The Titans improve to 3-4 on the season and 2-2 in the PAC, while the Bison fall to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the league.
The Westminster College men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Oberlin Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday at Oberlin College. The Titan women placed 25th out of 27 teams with 765 points, while the Titan men took 26th out of 30 with 796 points.
Senior Rachel Hudson (Lowelville, Ky./Pinecrest (N.C.)) led the Titan women with a time of 24:58 for 135th place overall. Senior Amanda Everett (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) was next in for the Titans at 25:43 for 148th overall. Case Western Reserve won the women's standings, while Oberlin's Joanna Johnson was the first-place finisher at 21:03.
October 16, 2009 BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - Sophomore Samantha Killmeyer (Medina, Ohio/Highland) scored two goals to propel the Westminster College women's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime win at Geneva on Friday night. Killmeyer scored a game-tying goal in the 67th minute on an assist from Brittany Grabski (Aliquippa, Pa.

The Westminster College women's tennis team defeated Geneva, 8-1, on Wednesday in an indoor match held at the North Beaver Tennis Center in New Castle.
Westminster is now 12-2 and Geneva is 9-5. The Titans host Bethany on Friday at 4 p.m. to close out the regular season.

October 16, 2009 BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Westminster College men's soccer team lost at Geneva, 3-2, on Friday night. The Titans' record falls to 6-9 on the season while the Golden Tornadoes improve to 10-4. Geneva scored the first two goals of the game when Bruce Fox scored in the 43rd minute and Josh Mann netted a point in the 47th minute.
The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) today recognized two Westminster College football players with weekly awards.
Sophomore quarterback Shawn Lehocky (Conway, Pa./Freedom) was named PAC Offensive Player of the Week and freshman kick returner Kyle Allen (New Wilmington, Pa./West Middlesex) was named PAC Special Teams Player of the Week for their efforts in Westminster's 49-42 overtime win over Waynesburg at home on Saturday.
Lehocky is the first Titan to earn PAC Offensive Player of the Week honors since running back Sean Buggey on Oct. 15, 2005.
The Westminster College women's soccer team shut out Saint Vincent, 2-0, at home on Monday night at Harold Burry Stadium. The Titans improve to 10-4-1 on the season and the Bearcats fall to 3-11.
Junior forward Sarah Nee (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) gave Westminster a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute, before junior Danielle Struble (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville) scored in the 46th minute to account for the Titans' scoring.
The Westminster College volleyball team won at Chatham, 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-8), on Tuesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action. The Titans improve to 9-15 overall and 8-2 in the PAC, while the Cougars fall to 1-20 overall and 0-10 in the league.
The Westminster College men's soccer team lost to Saint Vincent, 2-1, in overtime on Monday at Harold Burry Stadium. The Titans are now 6-8 on the season and Saint Vincent is 7-8-1. Ben Fecik scored the game-winning goal just 2:40 into overtime, beating Westminster junior goalkeeper Lance Leathers (Pleasant Gap, Pa./Bellefonte). Leathers made three saves in the second half after junior Mike Codita (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) played the first half and made five saves.
Homecoming brought twists and turns for Westminster's football squad and its fans.
First the kickoff of the homecoming game was delayed by 30 minutes.
Traffic snarls on I-79 kept Waynesburg from arriving at Burry Stadium on time.
Then the ups and downs of a suspenseful game ratcheted up the scoreboard as the match up went into overtime.
Finally, the Titans snatched a victory from the Yellow Jackets.
Westminster came out on top with a final score of 49-42.

The Westminster College volleyball team lost its first two Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matches of the season, dropping a pair at Thiel College on Saturday. The Titans lost to the host Tomcats, 3-1 (25-13, 21-25, 25-9, 25-19), before losing to Thomas More, 3-0 (27-25, 25-15, 25-14).
Westminster's records are now 8-15 overall and 7-2 in the PAC.
The Westminster College women's golf team placed eighth out of nine varsity teams at the Allegheny Invitational Thursday at the Meadville Country Club.
The Titans shot a team score of 385, led by freshman Annie Opaska (Pittsburgh, Pa./Home Schooled) with an 82 for an 11th-place tie overall. Freshman Jessica Kinnick (Youngstown, Ohio/Canfield) shot a 93 for 34th place.
The Westminster College women's tennis team tied last year's team record for wins in a season with 13 by beating Bethany, 8-1, Friday in an indoor match at the North Beaver Center in New Castle.
The match did not count toward the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) standings and Westminster used several reserve players to fill its lineup.
The Titans finish the regular season with a 13-2 record, while the Bison fall to 0-15. The Titans will play in the PAC Championships next weekend in Erie, Pa.

The Greyhounds crush the Raiders in a 64-0 win on Friday. After losing their last home game against Hickory the Hounds were determined to never let that happen again.
Wilmington shut out Reynolds at Greyhound Stadium Friday night with a final score of 64-0.
The Hounds home win over the Raiders moves the Greyhounds two victories past the squad's only loss in the season to Hickory two weeks ago.
The Farrell football team ranked #2 in this week's Pennsylvania AP High School Poll for Class A schools.
The Wilmington Greyhound football squad, defending state Class AA high school champs, continue to rank high as well. This week the Hounds came in the 10th. Wilmington has a 5-1 record with the only loss to Hickory.
However, Hickory also makes the top 10, ranked #9 this week.

The Hounds defeated the Tigers 21-7. Next week they will play at home against Reynolds High School.
