The new year brings a new district attorney to Lawrence County with Joshua Lamancusa taking the oath of office. He begins his four-year term after revealing to WCN 24/7 that he will hit the ground running as he tackles the backlog of criminal cases.
He says he will make changes in the office and staff to address that backlog.
He also recused himself from the county's high-profile murder case where the accused is a 12-year old Wampum boy.
Lamancusa pulled himself off the case explaining he had consulted with the boy's father last year. The new DA was serving as a private attorney when he was contacted by the father of then 11-year old Jordan Brown.
Brown was arrested last winter and charged as an adult for fatally shooting his dad's pregnant girlfriend. Now a judge will decide this month if the boy will be tried as an adult or if the case goes to juvenile court. The Pennsylvania Attorney General's office will step in to prosecute the case now that Lamancusa has taken himself off it.
The new DA says other cases and specific goals he mapped out during the election will keep him busy.
Lamancusa talks with WCN 24/7's Adam Plyler discussing a number of issues including the DA's message to citizens, crime fighters and criminals in our county.
