Wilmington's Burns Picks Pitt

Derrick Burns Following In Older Brother's Footsteps

Wilmington Area High School football star Derrick Burns will return to Greyhound Stadium for another football season for his senior year this fall, however the running back and linebacker will head to the University of Pittsburgh in 2010. Burns will receive a full ride to the University by joining the Panther football squad after graduating high school following in the footsteps of his older brother and Pitt running back Chris Burns. The younger Burns has given his verbal commitment to Pitt. In fact, he was the first commitment for 2010 the Panthers received.

WCN's Melissa Maines talks one on one with Burns about his decision to head to Pitt and what's in store as he looks forward to his final year at Wilmington High.

Men's Basketball: Murray Reaches Milestone in Titans' Rout of Waynesburg

Senior forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) became one of the Top 10 scorers in school history while also distributing a career high in assists to lead the Westminster College men's basketball team to an 87-70 win over visiting Waynesburg Wednesday night.

The Titans improve to 7-14 overall and 3-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-16 overall and 0-9 in league play. Murray bucketed a game-high 22 points while dishing out his career-high seven assists. Murray shot 6-12 from the floor, including 4-7 from 3-point range, in addition to a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. He also snared nine rebounds and three steals.

Swimming & Diving: Titans Break Eight of Saint Vincent's Pool Records

The Westminster College men's and women's swimming and diving teams really left their mark in a dual-meet sweep at Saint Vincent on Saturday. The Titans broke a total of eight pool records at Saint Vincent's Resnick Pool as the men won 140-101 and the women won 128-113.

Westminster's men team improves to 5-2 on the season and Saint Vincent's men's team falls to 1-8, while the Titan women's team ups its record to 6-2 and Saint Vincent falls to 3-6.

Swimming & Diving: SAAC Collecting Haiti Relief Donations at Thursday's Swim Meet

The Westminster College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will collect donations during Thursday night's home men's and women's swimming and diving dual meet vs. Grove City to support the Haiti earthquake relief fund.

Women's Basketball: Nationally-Ranked Thomas More Too Much for Titans

The Westminster College women's basketball team was no match for nationally-ranked Thomas More on Saturday, as the Titans lost 76-49 on the road in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game. Westminster falls to 7-12 on the season and 5-4 in the PAC, while Thomas More, which is ranked No. 16 in the NCAA Division III USA Today/ESPN/WBCA Coaches' Poll, improves to 17-2 and 9-1 in the league.

Senior guard Amy Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) led the Titans in scoring for a third straight game by scoring in double figures for the 14th time this year with a game-high 14 points. Dolsak also led the Titans with three assists and three steals. The Titans' next highest scorer was junior point guard Kaitlin McCarthy (Lowellville, Ohio/Lowellville) bucketing six points.

Men's Basketball: Titans Plagued by 30 Turnovers at Thomas More

Turnovers were costly for the Westminster College men's basketball team in its 82-65 loss at Thomas More in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action on Saturday. The Titans fall to 6-14 overall and 2-6 in the PAC, while the defending-PAC champion Saints improve to 14-5 overall and 6-2 in the league.

Westminster committed a season-high 30 turnovers, eight more than its previous season high marking only the fourth time this season that the Titans turned the ball over 20 or more times in a game. Thomas More scored 31 of its 82 points off of those turnovers.

Senior forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) led the Titans in scoring for the 11th time in the last 12 games with 14 points on 6-9 shooting. Murray was one of four players to post a team-high five rebounds, while he also committed a team-high six turnovers and registered a team-best five steals.

Men's Basketball: Titans Shoot Well, Make Quick Work of Bearcats

The Westminster College men's basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak by making quick work out of Saint Vincent, 69-44, on Wednesday night at the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. The Titans improve to 6-13 on the season and the Bearcats drop to 5-14. Westminster sweeps the season series against Saint Vincent.

The Westminster College women's basketball team lost to Saint Vincent, 66-60, on Wednesday night at the Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. The Titans drop to 7-11 on the season and the Bearcats improve to 14-4.

Senior guard Amy Dolsak (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) led the Titans with 21 points on 8-16 shooting from the floor for her fifth game of the season with 20 or more points. Freshman forward Andi Ridge (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Starpoint) tied a career high with 10 points, all coming in the second half, while adding 10 rebounds for her second career double-double.

Men's Basketball: Concordia Tops Titans in Westmont Consolation Game

Senior forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) posted the 31st double-double of his career, but the Westminster College men's basketball team lost to Concordia (Neb.), 73-66, Wednesday night in the consolation game of the 34th annual Tom Byron Classic hosted by Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Women's Basketball: Wooster's Second-Half Run Unravels Titans

The Westminster College women's basketball team lost a non-conference game at Wooster, 69-48, on Wednesday. Wooster outscored the Titans, 26-7, in the final 11:50. Both teams' records are now 3-7 on the season.

Meet the Titan soccer coach

For 12 seasons now, Girish Thakar has served as the head coach for soccer at Westminster. This year he coached the men's soccer team into the PAC playoffs with a 10-10 record. The women also saw some playoff action with a 13-6-1 record.

American Public Radio recognized Westminster basketball coaching legend Buzz Ridl-- the man who took the Titan basketball team to a national championship in 1960. This coverage on a nationally syndicated radio program, The Story with Dick Gordan, coincides with a homecoming at gym at Westminster that now bears the coach's name.

Westminster recognized 1959-60 men's basketball team on Saturday as the team reunited to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The team was honored at halftime of the Westminster-Notre Dame(Ohio), part of the of the 18th annual Buzz Ridl Classic.

Men's Basketball: Central Downs Westminster in First Day at Westmont

The Westminster College men's basketball team lost to Central (Iowa), 99-75, Tuesday in the first day of the 34th annual Tom Byron Classic hosted by Westmont College in Santa Barbara, Calif. The Titans fall to 2-7 on the season and will play in the Tom Byron Classic consolation game on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. EST (5:30 p.m. Pacific) against the loser Tuesday's late game between Westmont and Concordia (Neb.). Central improves to 9-2 and will play in the championship game Wednesday following the consolation game.

Football: Team recognizes players' contributions for '09 Season

The Westminster College football team held its annual awards banquet on Sunday, Jan. 31, in the Witherspoon Room of the McKelvey Campus Center.

Fifth-year head coach Jeff Hand awarded letters to 47 lettermen as well as academic awards and team awards voted on by the players.

Top honors went to senior running back Nick McKolosky (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop), who was named the team's Most Valuable Player for a second straight year, as well as earning the Titan of the Year Alumni Award for his exemplary attitude, work ethic, and teamwork.

The tough get tougher & then they hit the water

Swimming and diving are back together again at Westminster College with the tough now getting tougher.

The men and women train and compete in rigorous competitions that bring out the best in each of them while they also have some fun.

They're preparing for some fun in the sun over the winter break.

The teams travel to Winter Park for a dual meet with Rollins on Jan. 9.

The Florida trip is one of the opportunities for the teams to bond and grow away from campus while still feeding the competitive spirit.
