Police say a 19-year old Lawrence County man has been hospitalized after losing an arm and hand in a fireworks accident.
Police say the man was hurt Wednesday when an explosive went off as he was cleaning his garage in North Beaver Township.

The blaze started at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the workshop at the forge, where bronze pieces such as awards and trophies were being made.
Wendell August president Will Knecht said the company planned to rebuild "as soon as possible," and in the meantime operations would continue online and at the firm's other locations in Exton, Pa., and Berlin, Ohio.

A judge has ruled that Jordan Brown will go to trial and face a possible life sentence if convicted in the death of both the woman and the fetus.
Brown faces two counts of criminal homicide in the death a year ago of 26-year-old Kenzie Marie Houk and the unborn boy in their Wampum farmhouse. He was 11-years old when he was arrested in February 2009.
Police say a fugitive fatally shot himself as U.S. Marshals tried to arrest him in Lawrence County this week.
New Castle police say the marshals had an arrest warrant for 31-year-old Heath Moffatt from neighboring Shenango Township.
Township police did not immediately comment, but court records show they filed theft and stolen property charges against Moffatt last week.
A Lawrence County cement plant has laid off more than 100 workers, citing the poor economy.
Cemex Inc. tells state labor officials that 124 people would be affected by the layoffs, which officials describe as temporary.
David Argiro, president of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local D-173, says the company laid off 116 hourly workers and about 25 salaried employees Friday at the plant in Wampum.
Mercer County officials are feuding with Verizon over a $50,000 bill for phone service and late fees.
Mercer County commissioners claim the county has been overcharged because Verizon allegedly kept charging the county for phone service under an old, higher rate even after the county signed a new deal with a lower rate in November 2007.
However, Verizon says the dispute centers on when that 2007 contract took effect. The company says Verizon and county officials are trying to hammer out a solution.
Volunteers continue working to the jump start efforts for Lawrence County hire a humane officer to investigate and enforce laws regarding animal cruelty. A group of concerned citizens created the Lawrence County Animal Relief Fund (ARF)as they try to set up a non-profit organization to work with county leaders to secure a humane officer position.

They say 65-year-old Billy Ray Williams, from Erie, was driving eastbound Thursday night on I-80 in in Mercer County when he stopped his vehicle on the side of the right lane because of car trouble.
A witness reports seeing Williams stop his vehicle in the right lane near mile marker 24 and then walk across the front of the car.
The Republican senator, representing Pennsylvania's 50th Senatorial District which includes parts of Lawrence and Mercer counties, explains he traditionally opposes laws like this, but sees agrees there's a problem with people becoming distracted while texting on cell phones.
He points out that the proposed legislation would ban akk cell phone use as well. Robbins says he is concerned about that portion of the legislation.
Robbins says concerns about using cell phones for conversations is quickly being addressed by hands-free technology in vehicles.
Family and friends will hold funeral services this week for a former Mercer county woman who was killed by wild animals in Alaska last week.
Alaska authorities say an autopsy has revealed 32-year old special education teacher and Slippery Rock University graduate Candice Berner was mauled to death by what they suspect were wolves.
Her body was found last week outside the village of Chignik Bay on the Alaska Peninsula, which is about 474 miles southwest of Anchorage.
Despite the Chapter 11 status of Centaur Gaming, the company trying to build the $450-million dollar racino in Mahoning Township on 240-acres near Route 422, efforts continue to move the project forward.
Centaur says it needs the license to secure credit to build the facility.
However, creditors have refused to lend Centaur $176 million needed to build just the initial phase of the track.
Some published reports speculate a bankruptcy judge may scrap Centaur's plans and release the current harness racing license back to the state for a rebidding process.
However, Commissioner Vogler says he sees a different scenario where Centaur emerges from bankruptcy stronger and more viable.
U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) presented the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office with $120,000 in federal funding on Tuesday. The money is to help it update and replace some of the Sheriff's vehicles.
Altmire's office says the Congressman personally secured this funding for the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office through the FY 2010 federal budget.
Many of the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office's vehicles have been worn down by daily use. For example, the Sheriff's office currently has three 2003 vehicles that have more than 150,000 miles each and frequently need repairs.
The announcement for the grant came from Sate Senator Bob Robbins (R-50).
New Wilmington council member Susan Ligo says the grant will help with improvement and renovations with the borough's park.

Lawrence County Judge Dominick Motto wrapped up a hearing in New Castle on Friday for accused 12-year old murderer Jordan Brown by giving attorneys on both sides a week to submit written arguments concerning where the case should be tried-- adult criminal court or juvenile court.
Brown was 11 when he allegedly shot 26-year-old Kenzie Marie Houk in their Wampum farmhouse in February 2009.
Houk's unborn son also died. A prosecution psychiatrist testified Friday that Brown has a "very limited" likelihood of rehabilitation.
Fourth District Congressman Jason Altmire (D) says he will break with the leadership of his party this weekend and vote against health care reform legislation backed by the White House. The House of Representatives will take up the vote on health care reform over the weekend.
