Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Teams Open 2013 Season

BEREA, Ohio - Members of the Westminster College men's and women's indoor track and field teams opened its 2013 season at the Baldwin-Wallace Mid-January Meet on Friday. The Titan men placed fifth out of six schools with 39 points and the women placed sixth out of seven schools with 57.5 points.


Baldwin-Wallace was the host of the meet. The John Carroll men's team won with 254.5 points and the Baldwin-Wallace women's team won with 157 points.


On the women's side, the 4x200 meter relay team placed second with a time of 1:53.94. The quartet consisted of junior Haley Gabor (New Kensington, PA / Ford City) and freshmenMarissa Toensing (Newton Falls, OH / Newton Falls), Caitlin Yakopin (Washington, PA / Washington), and Alicia Nuzzo (New Castle, PA / Neshannock). Gabor also finished first in the 200 meter dash (28.11) and fourth in the 55 meter dash (7.96). Sophomore Brittany Majors (Wampum, PA / Ellwood City) tied for first in the pole vault with a 3.05 meter mark. Junior Kait Roth (Clarion, PA / Clarion) tied for sixth in the triple jump with a 9.18 meter mark.


The men swept the top-3 spots in the pole vault. Senior Mark Saylor (West Middlesex, PA / West Middlesex) earned first with a 4.27 meter mark followed by freshman Austin Fuller (Washington, PA / Washington) who placed second at 3.96m. Sophomore Natty Schramm (Cheswick, PA / Pittsburgh Central Catholic) and freshman Andrew Brannen (Pittsburgh, PA / Peters Township) tied for third with a 3.81m mark. Sophomore Christian Friday (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) placed sixth in the 55 meter hurdles with time of 8.84. JuniorJason Frawley (Franklin, PA / Franklin) earned fifth-place in the shot put with a throw of 13.44m. SeniorKyle Allen (New Wilmington, PA / West Middlesex) finished sixth in the 200 meter dash (24.07).


Westminster will compete at the Youngstown State University Invitational next Friday at 3 p.m.
