Men's Basketball: Despite First Half Lead, Titans Fall 74-61 at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team led 28-24 at halftime but found itself outscored 50-33 in the second half and lost 74-61 Saturday night at Waynesburg. The Titans dropped its fourth-straight game and moved to 4-9 overall and 0-5 in the conference, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 6-8 overall and 1-5 in the league.
In the first half, Westminster had its largest lead of eight points with 1:40 on the clock when junior Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) scored on a layup giving the Titans a 28-20 lead. Westminster led 28-24 at halftime.
In the second half, Westminster led 30-29 at the 18:35 mark, however Waynesburg orchestrated a 13-3 run to take a nine-point lead, 42-33, with 14:39 on the clock. The Titans responded with a 6-0 run to cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to 42-39, however Waynesburg pulled away and had its largest lead of 14 points when it led 69-55 at the 1:54 mark.
Thomas led the Titans with a game- and team-high 16 points (5-for-13). Senior Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and freshman Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) followed with 12 points each. Rounding out the double-digit scorers for Westminster was senior Reuben King (Tarentum, PA / Highlands) with 10 points. Paul Carswell grabbed down a game- and career-high 12 rebounds, followed by Adam Carswell and senior Doug Smith (South Park, PA / South Park) who had eight and seven rebounds, respectively. Thomas dished-out five assists. Carswell had a team-high three blocks.
Westminster will travel to Thomas More on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
