Men's Basketball: Titans Drop 78-70 Against Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster senior Doug Smith (South Park, PA / South Park) scored a game-high 31 points, however the Titans lost 78-70 against Grove City Wednesday night inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. Westminster dropped to 5-11 overall and 1-7 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, while the Wolverines improved to 6-10 overall and 3-5 in the conference.
Westminster took an early 12-4 lead at the 16:08 mark after a three-pointer from Smith, however, Grove City battled back and tied the game at 17 after a 13-5 run with 9:13 remaining in the first half. The Titans held a 34-32 halftime lead.
In the second half, Grove City took charge and led by as much as 15 points (68-53) with 4:32 remaining in the game.
For the game, Grove City outshot Westminster 45.3% (29-64) to 41.8% (23-55) and had a 45-32 rebound advantage.
Smith's 31 points included a game-high six three-pointers. Junior Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) followed with 22 points (6-for-14) and a game- and career- high nine assists. Also contributing on offense were freshman Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) and senior Ron Martino (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) who scored eight and five points, respectively. Carswell and Smith led the Titans on the glass with nine and eight rebounds, respectively.
The Titans will host Washington & Jefferson on Saturday at 4 p.m.
