Men's Basketball: Titans Drop, 79-69, in Third-Place Game of Tampa Bay Shootout

TAMPA, Fla. - The Westminster College men's basketball team dropped, 69-79, in the third-place game of the 2012 Tampa Bay Shootout against Connecticut College on Sunday. On Saturday, the Titans lost, 79-101, against LaGrange College (Ga.) in the opening round of the tournament. The Titans fell to 4-7 overall and the Camels improved to 5-6 on the season. DePauw University was the tournament host, which was played at the Tampa Preparatory School.
The Titans led only once in the game at the 14:25 mark in the first half, when senior Doug Smith (South Park, PA / South Park) found classmate Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) for a layup.
For the game, Westminster shot 31.4% (22-for-70) and Connecticut shot 47.3% (26-for-55).
Junior Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) led the Titans with 23 points (9-for-21), while Smith followed with 21 points (8-for-17). Freshman Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) added 10 points. Adam Carswell had a game-high 10 rebounds and pocketed a game-high three steals. Paul Carswell and Smith added nine and eight rebounds, respectively.
