Men's Basketball: Titans Fall, 76-51, to PAC Foe Bethany

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team dropped, 76-51, to the visiting Bethany College Wednesday night inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. The Titans fell to 4-8 overall and 0-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while the Bison improved to 11-2 overall and 5-0 in the league.
Westminster had a 7-6 lead after a three-pointer from senior Doug Smith (South Park, PA / South Park) at the 15:07 mark, however Bethany regained the lead with a layup and never looked back. The Bison, in front 19-18 with 10:32 on the clock, finished the half with a 21-4 run. Bethany maintained its double-digit lead for the remainder of the game and had its largest lead of 26 points at the 1:40 mark in the second half.
Smith led Westminster with 17 points (5-for-14), including a team-high three three-pointers. Junior Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) followed with 10 points and senior Ron Martino (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) had eight. Senior Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) grabbed a team-high six rebounds, while freshman Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) had four boards. Thomas also dished-out a team- and season-high five assists.
For the game, Westminster shot 39.5% (17-43) and Bethany shot 47.5% (28-59). The Bison had a 34-to-27 rebound advantage.
