Men's Basketball: Titans Hold Win on Senior Day

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team snapped a four-game skid on Saturday as it won 69-66 over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg on Senior Day. The Titans improved to 7-15 overall and 3-11 in the PAC, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 9-15 overall and 4-11 in the conference.


Westminster took its first lead, 13-11, in the first half at the 14:48 mark when junior Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) found freshman Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) for a layup. Waynesburg had its largest lead of the game when it led 32-23 after BJ Durham connected on a three-pointer at the 8:07 mark. The Titans responded with a 13-3 run to take a 36-35 lead with 2:10 on the clock. Westminster held a 38-37 halftime lead.


Down 46-45 with 15:56 on the clock, the Titans orchestrated an 11-0 run, which was capped off with a three-pointer from senior Doug Smith, to take a 56-46 lead with 13:07 remaining in the game.


Waynesburg, down 66-54 with 6:20 remaining, went on a 10-0 run to cut the Titans' lead to 66-64 with 1:10 on the clock.


Thomas led the Titans with a game-high 22 points (7-for-14). Carswell added 14 points. Rounding out the double-digit scorers for Westminster were Smith and senior Ron Martino (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) who each had 11 points. Senior Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) had a game-high 10 rebounds, followed by Smith with eight boards.


Jason Propst led Waynesburg with 16 points and nine rebounds.


Westminster will play two games on the road before the 2013 PAC playoffs begin. First up is at Grove City on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
