NEW WILINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team orchestrated three 10-0 runs in the first half that led to an eventual 72-55 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over Waynesburg. The Titans improved to 4-14 overall and 3-7 in the PAC, while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 4-15 overall and 1-9 in the conference.
Westminster shot 54.5% (18-for-33), including 6-for-11 from behind the three-point arc, in the first half and maintained a double-digit lead in the second half. The Yellow Jackets scored in double digits (32-10) with 8:18 left before intermission.
Junior Doug Smith (South Park, PA / South Park) led all scorers with 20 points (6-for-10), including a game-high six three-pointers. Classmate Ron Martino (Youngstown, OH / Cardinal Mooney) and sophomore Anthony Thomas (New Castle, PA / Union) added 17 and 15 points, respectively. Junior Adam Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) contributed with eight points and a team-high eight boards.
For the game, Westminster held a slight 46% (29-for-63) to 42.6% (23-for-54) shooting advantage over Waynesburg. The Yellow Jackets outrebounded the Titans 37-36.
Westminster is back in action this Saturday as they travel to Thiel at 3 p.m.
