Men's Soccer: Osae's Goal Lifts Titans Over Waynesburg

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College men's soccer team defeated the visiting Waynesburg Yellow Jackets, 2-1, Saturday at Harold Burry Stadium. The Titans improved to 9-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 6-6-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the PAC.


Westminster junior David Osae (Bedford, TX / Lawrence D. Bell) scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 23:02 mark in the first half when he connected on a sliding shot from 15 yards out. This was Osae's third goal of the season.


In the first half, Waynesburg had an early 1-0 lead when Ray Melone found James Sneed who netted the ball with a header at the 4:33 mark.


Titan freshman Ethan McCarthy (New Castle, PA / Neshannock) scored the equalizer, less than a minute before Osae's goal (22:28), when he received a cross in the box from senior Josh Cantella (Freedom, PA / Freedom). This was McCarthy's sixth goal of the year.


Westminster senior Adam Kephart (Beaver Falls, PA / Beaver County Christian) gathered in a team-high seven saves in 90 minutes of play.


For the game, the Titans out-shot the Yellow Jackets 23-to-15 and also had a 6-to-4 advantage in corner kicks. Osae had a game- and season-high five shots on goal, while McCarthy tied his career-high with four.


The Titans will travel to Bethany on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
