NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men’s lacrosse team won, 18-8, over Bethany College at home in Ohio River Lacrosse Conference (ORLC) action on Saturday.
Titan sophomore Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) and freshman Dante Serra (Center Valley, PA / Southern Lehigh) each registered a game-high six points. Shorts tallied a game-high five goals, to go along with an assist, while Serra dished out a game-high four assists and added two goals.
Westminster freshman Chris Slater (Pittsburgh, PA / Central Catholic) (two goals and two assists), junior Shamon Walker (Pittsburgh, PA / Milton Hershey) (two goals and two assists), and freshman Adrian Culp (Gaithersburg, MD / Quince Orchard) (four goals) each earned four points. Freshman Tyler Nordby (Burnt Hills, NY / Burnt Hills) (one goal and one assist) and sophomore Luke Ostoyic (Kentson, OH / Kenston) (two goals) added two points each, while freshman Steven Knight (Wyckoff, NJ / Ramapo) earned an assist.
The Titans improved to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in the ORLC, while the Bison dropped to 3-9 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Westminster outshot Bethany 51-37, including 31-17 on goal, and had a 44-21 advantage in ground balls. Titan freshman Chris Ryczaj (Pittsburgh, PA / Central Catholic) gathered in a game-high 12 ground balls. Titan sophomore goalkeeper Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) collected nine saves in a complete-game effort.
The Titans were 2-for-4 in extra man opportunities, while the Bison were 0-for-5.
The Titans led 9-4 at halftime and outscored the Bison 9-4 in the second half. Westminster started the game with a 4-0 lead. Up 7-4 with 4:13 to play in the second quarter, Westminster scored nine of the next 10 goals and led 16-5 with 8:46 left in the fourth.
Westminster will next play at Washington & Jefferson College in an ORLC contest on Wednesday, April 19 with a 6:30 p.m. start time.
