NEW WILMINGTON Pa, ---

Cell Phones have changed drastically over the last 30 years. The first mobile phone introduced to the public market was in 1983 by the Motorola Company. Back then phones used analog technology which was less reliable and more static. Today, cell phones are in the fourth generation, and feature digital technology and the ability to access the internet.

I sat down and talked with three Westminster students Justin Presjnar, Bryan Cameron, and Dave Schafer to take a trip down memory lane and describe their first cell phones.

Justin Presjnar,"I can remember my first cell phone, that first Nokia is was about seven inches long and I couldn't even fit it in my pocket. All I could do was call and the background was gray and didn't have any color background and the best thing about it was the snake game".

Bryan Cameron, "I got it when I was about 12 years old, I thought I was real cool bought myself a Track Phone for twenty bucks. Got some prepaid minutes and it was blue and a real heavy Nokia".

Dave Schafer,"It was an old flip phone probably one of the first razors or something like that and it barely had service bad service and you definitely couldn't look at videos".

Being a college student, paying a cell phone bill is quite difficult. However, with the help of parents paying these cell phone bills is a bit more manageable.

One of the newest developments in cell phones is the ability to text message. Text messaging allows a cell phone user to exchange brief written text messages between cell phones.

A problem with texting is that the older generation of parents and grandparents are simply steps behind.

With all the changes in cell phone technology I wondered how this technology has affected college students.

With cell phones being in the fourth generation, in only 30 years the future looks bright for further advancements in cell phone technology.
