CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (AP) — Police say a driver who fatally shot himself during a vehicle chase was a Lawrence County man suspected in a shooting earlier this year.

Police in Cranberry Township, Butler County, say that man was 19-year-old Lagene Lawson, of New Castle.

Cranberry police joined the chase shortly after police in neighboring Adams Township spotted Lawson's car speeding on Route 228 about 3:15 a.m. Saturday. The chase began about 30 miles north of Pittsburgh.

Police say the driver fired a single gunshot, killing himself, before his car crashed into a Lane Bryant clothing store at the Cranberry Commons shopping center. Nobody else was hurt and police say they did not exchange gunfire with the victim before he shot himself.

New Castle police couldn't immediately be reached for details on the shooting in which Lawson was a suspect.
