NEW CASTLE, Pa. (AP) — A Lawrence County man is facing charges in the death of his infant son.

New Castle police said 21-year-old Terrance Murphy T told investigators he accidently slammed his 6-week-old son against a door frame on Friday shortly before the infant died.

He is charged with homicide, aggravated assault and simple assault.

Authorities say they were called Friday for an infant that was not breathing and was being taken from Murphy's apartment complex to a hospital, where the child died. Police say when they arrived at the apartment to investigate, officers found Murphy hiding in a closet.

An autopsy determined 6-week-old Terrance Murphy Jr. had two large skull fractures, and his death was ruled a homicide.
