SCOTT TOWNSHIP, Pa.-- One of 20 DEP permitted horizontal gas wells sites in Lawrence County underwent a transformation this week in Scott Township along SR 956. Shell Oil's rig #52 is now gone. Work crews dismantled the the rig along with tons of support equipment through the weekend.
Dozens of heavy trucks hauled off the portable buildings and gear that surrounded the rig. The location had buzzed with activity all summer. Local residents will no longer hear the noise from the machinery driving the drilling operation. The bright lights that lit up the site are also gone. Pilot trucks helped the big rigs navigate from Route 956 to Route 19 and onto I-79 through on Monday.
According to the DEP, the Scott Township site is one of 20 gas well operations granted permits since May for Lawrence County. Shell Oil and Hillcorp Energy hold permits to drill at sites in Pulaski, Scott and North Beaver townships. Rex Energy holds a permit to drill in Perry Township.
