Police: Mercer Co. woman took drugs before baby's death

HERMITAGE, Pa. (AP)-- A Mercer County woman faces child endangerment charges in connection with her young daughter's death last November.
Police say 35-year-old Diana Phythyon of Hermitage of was taking drugs on the night her 9-week-old daughter died.
Phythyon allegedly took pills in a suicide attempt and brought the baby to bed with her at about 6 p.m. Four hours later police responded to a report that the child wasn't breathing. The child was pronounced dead at 10:28 p.m.
Phythyon allegedly acknowledged that she had been told not to sleep with the baby because of the risk of accidental suffocation.
She's facing charges of child endangerment and reckless endangerment. A preliminary is scheduled for Jan. 31.
