Softball: Titans Drop Two Games in Florida

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Westminster College (2-6) softball team lost two games on Thursday in the Rebel Spring Games. The Titans lost, 4-0, to Alvernia in game one and 8-7 against Beloit in the nightcap.
Westminster senior pitcher Chelsea Brown (New Castle, PA / Mohawk) (1-3) went six innings in game one and gave up two runs (one earned) off eight hits. Brown struck out three batters and walked none.
Alvernia (7-0) scored one run in the fourth inning, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh. The Crusaders out-hit the Titans 10-5.
In game two, Westminster took a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Freshman Allison Hryadil (Pittsburgh, PA / Montour) batted in junior Kelsey Squelch (Pittsburgh, PA / Perry Traditional) with a double to left field and senior Katie Hughes (Boardman, OH / Cardinal Mooney) scored on a pass ball.
Beloit tied the game at 2-2 after a run in the first and second inning, however the Titans regained the lead with two runs in the top of the third inning. Freshman Alexis Sheffer (Seneca, PA / Cranberry) hit a two-run single to right field, scoring Hughes and Hryadil. The Buccaneers, however, responded with a three-run third inning to take their first lead of the game at 5-4.
Beloit added three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take an 8-4 lead. Westminster scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning but was unable to regain the lead. Hryadil led the Titans at the plate batting 3-4 with an RBI. Sheffer and Squelch each had two RBI.
