Swimming and Diving: Men Currently First, Women Second After Day Two of PAC Championships

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Westminster College men's and women's swimming and diving teams completed day two of four of the 2013 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday. The championships took place at the James E. Longnecker Competition Pool on the campus of Grove City College. The Titan men are currently in the lead with 221 points, while the Titan women stand second with 230 points.


The men's 400 yard medley relay team won with a provisional NCAA, pool-, conference-, and school-record time of 3:23.90. The quartet included sophomore Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman), freshman Matt Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford), senior Alan Nedley (White, PA / Connellsville), and sophomore Jake Pletz (Venetia, PA / Peters Township). The previous school-record was 3:25.35 which was broken in 2012. Brooks's 100 yard backstroke time of 50.80, the first leg of the relay, also broke an 11-year old school record.


Nedley and Pletz also earned second-place finishes in their respective individual event. Nedley placed second in the 500 yard freestyle (4:44.17) and Pletz touched second in the 200 yard IM (1:56.44). Brooks also finished third in the 50 yard freestyle (21.54). Rounding out the top-3 finishes for the men was the 200 yard freestyle relay team that placed third with a time of 1:24.81. The team included sophomore Dave Starr (Pittsburgh, PA / Plum), Brooks, senior Dan Gutmann (Cranberry Twp., PA / Seneca Valley), and Pletz.


Leading the women's team was the 400 yard medley relay team who placed second with a time of 4:00.63. Completing the quartet were freshman Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock) and juniors Erin Erdley (Meadville, PA / Cochranton), Amanda Marlow (Twinsburg, OH / Twinsburg), and Carrie Whisel (Boiling Springs, PA / Boiling Springs). Marlow also placed third in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:10.69. Rounding out the top-3 finishes for the women was the 200 yard freestyle relay team (1:38.68) that included sophomores Ashley Wyland (Pittsburgh, PA / Taylor Allderdice) and Marina Rozick (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) and Whisel and Reott.
