Swimming & Diving: Men's Place First, Women Second at Westminster Relays

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College swimming and diving teams opened its 2012-13 season tonight as the host of the Westminster Relays. The men finished first with 104 points out of five teams, while the women placed second with 98 points out of six schools.


Gannon University, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, Saint Vincent College, Chatham University, and Penn State Altoona were the other schools that competed.

The Titan men won three relays, while the women won one.


On the men's side, the trio of sophomore Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman), freshman Austin Karper (Carlisle, PA), and senior Cody Trudeau (Tioga, PA / Williamson) won the 3x100 yard backstroke relay with a time of 2:46.17. Freshman Matthew Baurle (Jeannette, PA), senior Will Stiglitz (Franklin, PA / Cranberry), and senior Dan Gutmann (Cranberry Twp., PA / Seneca Valley) won the 3x100 yard breaststroke relay with a time of 3:05.92. Rounding out the first-place finishers for the men were Karper, Baurle, senior Alan Nedley (White, PA / Connellsville), and Gutmann in the 400 yard medley relay (3:37.57). 

The women won the 3x100 yard backstroke relay with a time of 3:04.34. The triad consisted of freshman Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA), sophomore Marina Rozick (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny), and junior Erin Erdley (Meadville, PA / Cochranton).


Westminster will compete at Allegheny next Saturday at 1 p.m.
