Swimming & Diving: Titans Split at Grove City; Men Top Wolverines for First Time in Five Years

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Westminster College women's and men's swimming & diving teams competed at Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Grove City Thursday night. The Titan men won 160-134, their first win over the Wolverines since the 2007-08 season, while the Titan women lost 169-119.


The Titan men improved to 8-3 overall and a perfect 4-0 in the conference, while the Titan women dropped to 8-4 overall and 4-1 in the PAC. The Wolverine men dropped to 3-8 overall and 2-1 in the league, while the Wolverine women improved to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference.


For the men, sophomore Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman), freshman Matthew Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford), and senior Alan Nedley (White, PA / Connellsville) won two individual events each.  

Brooks won the 100 yard backstroke (52.64) and the 200 yard backstroke (1:57.37). Baurle won the 100 yard breaststroke (58.10) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:10.26). Nedley touched first in the 200 yard butterfly (1:59.14) and in the 100 yard butterfly (52.43).


Brooks, Baurle, and Nedley were also part of the 200 yard medley relay team that won with a time of 1:35.89. Completing the quartet was sophomore Jake Pletz (Venetia, PA / Peters Township). Pletz also won the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:01.25.   

Also earning an individual win for the men was freshman Jimmy Newman (Richboro, PA / Council Rock) who placed first in the 500 yard freestyle (4:56.72).


For the women's team, freshman Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock) led the way with three first-place finishes. Reott won the 100 yard backstroke (1:00.17), the 200 yard backstroke (2:11.16), and the 200 yard IM (2:16.18).


The women's 400 yard freestyle relay team placed first with a time of 3:48.23. The team included junior Erin Erdley (Meadville, PA / Cochranton), sophomore Marina Rozick (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny), junior Carrie Whisel (Boiling Springs, PA / Boiling Springs), and sophomore Ashley Wyland (Pittsburgh, PA / Taylor Allderdice).


Rounding out the first-place finishes for the women was junior Amanda Marlow (Twinsburg, OH / Twinsburg) who touched first in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.84).
