Swimming & Diving: Titans Sweep PAC Foe Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - TheWestminster College men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Saint Vincent on Saturday. The Titan women won, 150-107, while the Titan men won 131-96.


The Titan men improved to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the PAC, while the women improved to 8-3 overall and 4-0 in the PAC. The Bearcat men dropped to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in the league, while the women fell to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the PAC.


Westminster won 18 events (10 women, 8 men), not including two events where exhibition swimmers competed.


The men's 200 yard medley relay team broke the pool-record with a time of 1:36.00 as they touched first. The previous record was 1:36.32 set in 2000. The foursome included sophomore Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman), freshman Matthew Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford), senior Alan Nedley (White, PA / Connellsville), and sophomore Jake Pletz (Venetia, PA / Peters Township). All four swimmers also picked up an individual win. Pletz, finished first in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 55.14, Baurle won the 200 yard breaststroke (2:13.05), Nedley won the 200 yard butterfly (1:58.22), and Brooks won the 50 yard freestyle (22.65).


Rounding out the first-place finishers for the men were freshman Jimmy Newman (Richboro, PA / Council Rock ) (1,000 yard freestyle/10:15.40), sophomore David Starr (Pittsburgh, PA / Plum) (100 yard freestyle/50.72), and freshmanAustin Karper (Carlisle, PA / Carlisle) (200 yard backstroke/2:03.25).


Freshman Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock) led the Titan women with three first-place finishes. Reott won the 1,000 yard freestyle (10:58.07), the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.30), and the 200 yard backstroke (2:15.89). Sophomore Ashley Wyland (Pittsburgh, PA / Taylor Allderdice) earned two first-place finishes with wins in the 200 yard freestyle (2:01.33) and in the 500 yard freestyle (5:28.33). Also earning multiple wins was freshman Sara Peace (Darlington, PA / Blackhawk) who won the 200 yard breaststroke (2:37.87) and the 100 yard breaststroke (1:13.46) and junior Amanda Marlow (Twinsburg, OH / Twinsburg) won the 200 yard butterfly (2:13.33) and the 100 yard butterfly (1:01.63).


Rounding out the first-place finishers for the women was the 200 yard medley relay team who won with a time of 1:55.75. The quartet included sophomore Marina Rozick (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) and juniors Erin Erdley (Meadville, PA / Cochranton), Marlow, and Carrie Whisel (Boiling Springs, PA / Boiling Springs).


The Titans are back in the pool next Thursday when they travel to Grove City at 6 p.m.
