Swimming & Diving: Titans Top Chatham, West Virginia Wesleyan

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Westminster College men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed at Chatham University on Saturday. The Titan men won 122-82 over Division II West Virginia Wesleyan (WVW). The Titan women won 117-59 over WVW and 126-83 over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Chatham.
Westminster won 13 events (women 7, men 6), not including one event where it used exhibition swimmers. The Titan men improved to a perfect 7-0 overall, while the Titan women improved to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the PAC.
For the women, freshman Kelsey Reott (Butler, PA / Slippery Rock) led the way with two individual wins. Reott placed first in the 200 yard IM (2:16.33) and in the 200 yard backstroke (2:15.06).
The 200 yard medley women relay team won with a time of 1:58.32. Completing the quartet were sophomore Marina Rozick (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) and juniors Erin Erdley (Meadville, PA / Cochranton), Amanda Marlow (Twinsburg, OH / Twinsburg), and Carrie Whisel (Boiling Springs, PA / Boiling Springs). Marlow also earned an individual win in the 200 yard butterfly at 2:16.07.
Also earning individual wins for the women were sophomore Veronica Corcoran (Dubois, PA / DuBois) (1,000 yard freestyle/11:28.82), sophomore Ashley Wyland (Pittsburgh, PA / Taylor Allderdice) (200 yard freestyle/2:03.24), and junior Carrie Whisel (Boiling Springs, PA / Boiling Springs) (100 yard freestyle/56.99).
For the men, the 200 yard medley relay team, consisted of sophomore Steven Brooks (Boardman, OH / Boardman), freshman Matthew Baurle (Jeannette, PA / Penn Trafford) and seniors Alan Nedley (White, PA / Connellsville) and Dan Gutmann (Cranberry Twp., PA / Seneca Valley), won with a time of 1:40.38. Brooks also earned an individual win in the 200 yard backstroke at 1:57.51.
Also earning individual wins for the men were sophomore Nicholas Smith (Indiana, PA / Indiana) (1,000 yard freestyle/10:14.53), sophomore Jake Pletz (Venetia, PA / Peters Township) (100 yard freestyle/48.84), freshmanJimmy Newman (Richboro, PA / Council Rock) (500 yard freestyle/4:58.54), and senior Will Stiglitz (Franklin, PA / Cranberry) (200 yard breaststroke/2:16.55).
Westminster will travel to Carnegie Mellon to compete against Carnegie Mellon and SUNY Geneseo next Saturday at 1 p.m.
