NEW WILMINGTON, Pa—The Westminster Titan Men’s Basketball team wrapped up their 21st annual Buzz Ridl Tournament earlier in November with a 2-0 record. But what is the story behind the tournament?

The annual tournament pays homage to the late Charles G. “Buzz” Ridl. Ridl is a former coach and athletic director at Westminster. He coached the men’s basketball team from 1956-68 with a record of 216-91. He then coached at The University of Pittsburgh from 1968-1975 with a record of 97-83. His overall coaching record was 313-174.

Ridl finally returned back to Westminster to become the Athletic Director. He was the Athletic Director at Westminster from 1977-1985 before retiring. He later passed away on April 28th, 1995.

All proceeds went to Coaches v. Cancer, which is Ridl’s memorial fund. The Titans went 2-0 this season with wins over Mount Union, 67-58, and Muskingum 78-60.
