NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.-- Three graduates of the Westminster College baseball team were offered a chance to play in the California Winter League (CWL) for the upcoming season. All-PAC honorees Steve Perrotta (New Castle, PA / New Castle), Patrick Mulligan  (Brookfield, OH / Brookfield), and Tim Wiand  (Pottstown, PA / Owen J. Roberts) were selected, but only Perrotta will participate. Wiand entered the workplace, while Muilligan will finish his education.

The CWL is the premier instructional league in the nation and provides players with the opportunity to be trained by former Major League Baseball players and current professional league coaches and managers. In 2012 the California Winter League will expand to five teams, as it continues to be the premier destination for players to receive top-quality instruction and get noticed by Major League scouts. In three seasons, the CWL has helped 145 of 272 players that have joined the CWL get professional playing opportunities.

The Palm Springs Chill was created in 2008 as an expansion franchise to compete in the Arizona Winter League. In the fall of 2009, after two successful Chill seasons, Owner and President Andrew Starke announced the inception of a new winter league, the California Winter League. The CWL flourished in its first season in 2010, with over 50% of the players receiving spring training offers. With almost twice as many players in 2011, over 60% received offers.
