Volleyball: Titans Win First Round of PAC Tournament

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Westminster College volleyball team advanced to the 2012 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Semifinals after its 3-1 (15-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-23) win at Geneva in the first round of the tournament on Tuesday. The Titans improved to 22-10 overall, while the Golden Tornadoes finished their season at 22-11.
The win ends the Titans' nine-match losing streak to the Golden Tornadoes and marks their first win against Geneva since 2008, the last year Westminster won the PAC Championship. The Titans are vying for its fourth PAC championship.
Junior Katie Palkovic (Camp Hill, PA / Trinity) dished-out a team-high 43 assists, along with 13 digs and five kills. Junior Megan Romocean (Ravenna, OH / Southeast) led the Titan attack with nine kills. Junior Lexi Starheim (Hubbard, OH / Hubbard) and sophomore Kassie Freyermuth (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) followed with eight and seven kills, respectively.
Senior Tara Incerpi (Carrollton, OH / Minerva) led the Westminster defense with 21 digs. Also with double-digit digs were junior Chrissy Volsko (Canfield, OH / Austintown Fitch) (11), junior Claire Ferrando (North Jackson, OH / Western Reserve) (13), freshman Megan Prybyl (Mars, PA / North Catholic) (12), and sophomore Julie Powell (Meadville, PA / Meadville) (10). Starheim led Westminster with six blocks, while sophomore Kassie Freyermuth (Allison Park, PA / North Allegheny) and Prybyl earned four and three blocks, respectively.
Westminster advances to the weekend "final four", hosted by Thomas More in Crestview Hills, Ky. No. 5-seeded Westminster will face the top-seed, Thomas More, at 6 p.m. on Friday in the Semifinals.
The championship match is set for Saturday, October 3 at 4 p.m. at Thomas More's Connor Convention Center.
Admission for all PAC Championship events is $5 for adults, $2 for students and $1 for programs. PAC and institutional passes are not accepted at PAC Championship events. Students from PAC institutions will be admitted free to events at their school with a valid college ID.
