NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.-- The Art Department opened the doors to its new studios and classrooms to the public on Tuesday night at Russell Hall. The basement floor at the men's residence home now houses the art studios and classes for fine art classes. Faculty, students and staff staged an open house for the campus community for a closer look at the new home for creating and studying art at Westminster.
It's a top to bottom transition for art students and faculty. The old studios were housed on the third floor of Patterson Hall for decades. Now you'll find paint, clay, dyes, brushes and all the other assorted tools for fine arts in the basement. However, unlike the typical dark, damp basement that often serve as storage areas, the basement of Russell has been transformed. Where Celebrity Series offices were most recently housed, and before that a dining hall and kitchen for students, you will now find bright, open work spaces, kilns and classrooms. The makeover comes complete with areas for art installations and state of the art ventilation.
