Women's Basketball: Titans Drop 54-66 at Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team dropped 54-66 at Carnegie Mellon on Saturday. The Titans fell to 4-7 overall and the Tartans improved to 7-2 on the season with their seventh-straight win.


Carnegie Mellon went on an 18-0 run with two minutes to go in the first half and led 32-17.


Down 38-22 at halftime, a rejuvenated Westminster squad came out of the locker room in the second half and tied the game 42-42 following a 20-4 run. Senior Jenn Cantella (Freedom, PA / Freedom) capped of the run with a jump shot with 11:12 to play in the game.


The Tartans, however, hit a three-pointer with 9:35 remaining in regulation and took a 45-42 lead. Carnegie Mellon remained in front for the remainder of the game.


For the game, Carnegie Mellon shot 41.8% (28-67) and Westminster shot 29.0% (19-62).


Cantella led Westminster with 15 points (5-for-15). Classmate Katie Hughes (Boardman, OH / Cardinal Mooney) and junior Gabby Holko (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Alvernia) followed with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Sophomore Jenny Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville) and junior Hannah Shaffer (Apollo, PA / Apollo-Ridge) also contributed for the Titans with nine and seven points, respectively.


On the glass, Hughes led Westminster with nine rebounds. Cantella and Shaffer added seven and six boards, respectively. Hughes and Holko added two blocks each.


Westminster will host Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Bethany on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
