Women's Basketball: Titans Drop 57-51 at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - Titan junior Gabby Holko (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Alvernia) scored a career-high 19 points, however the Westminster College women's basketball team lost 57-51 to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg College Saturday night. The Titans dropped to 5-8 overall and 3-3 in the PAC and the Yellow Jackets improved to 5-8 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
Waynesburg scored first with a three-pointer at the 16:28 mark. Westminster took its first lead of the game with 8:22 remaining in the first half when junior Hannah Shaffer (Apollo, PA / Apollo-Ridge) found sophomore Jenna Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville) for a fastbreak three-pointer to give the Titans a 17-15 lead. The Yellow Jackets, however, had a 29-26 lead at halftime.
Westminster was unable to break in front for the remainder of the game despite cutting the Yellow Jackets' lead to one point, 50-49, with 2:38 on the clock after senior Katie Hughes (Boardman, OH / Cardinal Mooney) split a pair of free throws.
Holko shot a game- and career-high 6-for-14 from the floor, including a game-high 3-for-9 behind the three-point arc. Hughes and senior Andi Ridge (North Tonawanda, NY / Starpoint) followed with seven points each, while senior Katie Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville) scored career-high six points. Shaffer dished-out a game-high three assists. Ridge had a game- and team-high 10 rebounds, followed by Shaffer and Jenna Grandy with seven boards each. Shaffer also pocketed a team-high two steals.
The Titans will travel to Thomas More on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
