Women's Basketball: Titans Fall,62-53, at Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team lost, 62-53, at Grove City Wednesday night. The Titans dropped to 10-14 overall and 8-9 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, while the Wolverines improved to 9-12 overall and 8-9 in the conference.


The Wolverines had their largest lead of the first half when they led 19-8 with 10:10 on the clock. Westminster rallied and cut Grove City's lead to 19-17 after a 9-0 run which was capped off from a three-pointer from senior Jenn Cantella (Freedom, PA / Freedom) with 7:32 remaining in the half. Classmate Danielle Gilmore (Washington, PA / Trinity) earned the assist. Grove City led 32-23 at halftime.


The Titans continued to battle and cut Grove City's lead to 56-52 with 2:39 remaining in regulation after a three-pointer from Hannah Shaffer (Apollo, PA / Apollo-Ridge). Westminster, however, was not able to break through Grove City's lead.


For the game, Westminster outshot Grove City 37.0% (20-for-54) to 35.1% (20-for-57). The Wolverines outrebounded the Titans, 45-33.


Cantella led the Titans and tied a game- and career-high with 20 points, including a game-high five three-pointers. Shaffer followed with 11 points. On the glass, seniors Andi Ridge (North Tonawanda, NY / Starpoint) and Katie Hughes (Boardman, OH / Cardinal Mooney) led Westminster with nine and eight rebounds, respectively. Gilmore dished-out a team-high four assists.


Leah Gibson led Grove City with 20 points, while Annie Wells had a team-high 10 rebounds.


Westminster will play its final regular season game on Saturday at Geneva at 5:30 p.m.
