Women's Basketball: Titans Fall at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team fell, 77-44, at Saint Vincent on Saturday in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action. The Titans dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference, while the Bearcats improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the PAC.
Both teams battled for the lead in the first 10 minutes of the first half. Westminster led 8-7 after senior Jenn Cantella (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) found classmate Katie Hughes (Boardman, OH / Cardinal Mooney) for a fastbreak layup with 11:47 left. Saint Vincent, however, outscored the Titans 33-6, paced by six three-pointers, for the remaining of the half to take a 40-14 halftime lead. Saint Vincent remained on top for the duration of the game.
For the game, Westminster shot .308 (16-of-52) from the floor, including .300 (3-of-10) from behind the three-point arc. Saint Vincent shot .483 (28-of-58), while .450 (9-of-20) from three.
Cantella and junior Gabby Holko (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Alvernia) led the Titans with 14 points each. Hughes added eight points, while junior Hannah Shaffer (Apollo, PA / Apollo-Ridge) led Westminster as she tied a career-high with seven rebounds and added four points.
Westminster will start a four-game home swing starting with Thiel on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
