Women's Basketball: Titans Finish 2012-13 Season After 61-53 Loss at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. - The Westminster College women's basketball team ended its 2012-13 season after a 61-53 loss to Waynesburg in the first round of the 2013 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Tournament. The Titans finished the year with an overall record of 11-15, while the Yellow Jackets improved to 14-12 overall and advance to the semifinals.
Westminster led 8-4 with 13:15 on the clock in the first half after a pair of free throws from junior Gabby Holko (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Alvernia). Waynesburg responded with a 13-2 run to take a 17-10 lead with 9:34 remaining. The Titans cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to 21-19 at the 3:41 mark after a layup from sophomore Jenna Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville). Waynesburg held a 27-24 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Titans tied it 30-30 when senior Katie Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville) found Holko for a jumper with 13:12 on the clock. Westminster took its first lead of the second half when senior Danielle Gilmore (Washington, PA / Trinity) found classmate Jenn Cantella (Freedom, PA / Freedom) who made a three-pointer to give the Titans a 37-36 lead with 10:15 remaining. Waynesburg, however, regained the lead and had its largest lead, 53-44, at the 3:47 mark.
For the game, Waynesburg out-shot Westminster 33.3% (20-60) to 30.0% (15-50). The Titans out-rebounded the Yellow Jackets, 47-32.
Cantella led all scorers with 12 points, followed by Holko with 10 points. Senior Katie Hughes (Boardman, OH / Cardinal Mooney) and Gilmore added nine and seven points, respectively. Senior Andi Ridge (North Tonawanda, NY / Starpoint) led on the glass with a game-high 13 rebounds, while Hughes had six boards.
Elaine Hasek led Waynesburg with team-highs nine points and six rebounds.
