Women's Basketball: Titans Top PAC Foe Bethany, 59-45

BETHANY, W.Va. - Titan senior Katie Hughes (Boardman, OH / Cardinal Mooney) scored a game-high 23 points as the Westminster College women's basketball team won, 59-45, over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Bethany College Wednesday night. The Titans improved to 9-11 overall and 7-6 in the PAC, while the Bison dropped to 6-14 overall and 4-9 in the conference.


With the game tied, 12-12, Westminster took its first lead of the game (14-12) after a pair of free throws by junior Gabby Holko (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Alvernia) at the 11:50 mark. Westminster had its largest lead of the half when senior Jenn Cantella (Freedom, PA / Freedom) found Holko for a layup as time expired, giving the Titans a 28-18 halftime lead. The Titans maintained the lead for the remainder of the game.


For the game, the Titans outshot the Bison 35.7% (20-56) to 28.6% (16-56), while the Bison had the rebound advantage (40-38).  

Also scoring in double-digits for Westminster were Holko and Cantella who scored 12 and 10 points, respectively. Senior Andi Ridge (North Tonawanda, NY / Starpoint) led on the glass with a game-high 10 rebounds, followed by Cantella with seven. Junior Hannah Shaffer (Apollo, PA / Apollo-Ridge) and sophomore Jenna Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville) contributed with six and four points respectively. Cantella dished-out a game-high five assists.


The Titans are back in action when they travel to Chatham (2-11, 3-17 PAC) this Saturday at 1 p.m.
