Women's Basketball: Titans Upset W&J, Win 59-48

Westminster junior Gabby Holko scored in double-digits for the eighth-straight game.

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster junior Gabby Holko (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Alvernia) scored in double-digits for the eighth-straight game as the Titans upset Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Washington & Jefferson, 59-48, Saturday inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

The Titans win their third-straight game and improved to 8-9 overall and 6-4 in the conference, while the Presidents snapped their four-game winning streak and dropped to 12-5 overall and 7-3 in the PAC.

In the first half, W&J had its largest lead when it led 7-2 at the 17:55 mark. Westminster responded with a 9-0 run which was capped off with a layup from senior Andi Ridge (North Tonawanda, NY / Starpoint) with 11:44 on the clock. The Presidents battled back and led 16-13 at the 6:18 mark, however the Titans mustered a 14-2 run to take their largest lead at 27-18 with 1:01 remaining in the half. Holko capped off the streak with a three-pointer, while classmate Hannah Shaffer (Apollo, PA / Apollo-Ridge) earned the assist.

The Presidents cut Westminster's lead to four points four separate times in the second half, however were unable to take the lead. Up 45-41 with 7:07 remaining in regulation, the Titans went on a 14-7 run to end the game.

Holko led the Titans with 15 points (6-for-8). Ridge and sophomore Jenna Grandy (Sharpsville, PA / Sharpsville) also scored in double-digits for Westminster with 11 points each. Also contributing on offense were seniors Jenn Cantella (Freedom, PA / Freedom) and Katie Hughes (Boardman, OH / Cardinal Mooney) and Shaffer with nine, eight, and five points, respectively.

Ridge led on the glass with a game-high 14 rebounds, which tied a season-high. Hughes and Holko followed with seven rebounds each.

Westminster is back in action when it travels to Thiel next Wednesday at 6 p.m.
