Women's Basketball: Westminster Over Pitt-Greensburg

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Senior Katie Hughes (Boardman, OH / Cardinal Mooney) led all scorers with a career-high 30 points and guided the Westminster College women's basketball team to a 58-48 win over the visiting Pitt-Greensburg Tuesday night. The Titans improved to 4-5 overall, while the Bobcats dropped to 5-5.
Hughes was 12-for-21 for the game, which marked the first woman Titan to score atleast 12 field goals in a game since 2005 and only the sixth ever.
In the first half, Westminster went on a 16-2 run with 15:10 on the clock. Hughes led the streak with eight points. The Titans had their largest lead when Hughes found junior Gabby Holko (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Alvernia) for a three-pointer that put Westminster in front 28-8 with 5:51 remaining in the half. Westminster went into the locker room with a 34-18 lead.
Pitt-Greensburg conducted a 14-5 run, to start the second half, to pull within seven points (39-32). The Bobcats, however, were unable to get any closer for the remainder of the game.
Also scoring in double-digits for Westminster was Holko with 12 points, including a game-high three three-pointers. Seniors Jenn Cantella (Freedom, PA / Freedom) and Andi Ridge (North Tonawanda, NY / Starpoint) contributed with six and five points, respectively. On the glass, Hughes had a game-high 12 rebounds. Ridge and Cantella followed with eight and five rebounds, respectively. Hughes, Ridge, and Holko had four assists each. Ridge added a team-high three steals.
