SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.– State police say the former Slippery Rock University Chief of Police faces charges of stealing more than $23,000 from the department.  Police filed charges on Monday.

According to officials at Slippery Rock University (SRU), the charges came after they investigated questions about budget funds in the university police department.

SRU placed Simmons on administrative leave in February and later fired.  He became chief in 2011.

Simmons faces arraignment on four felony charges later this month.
