NEW CASTLE, Pa.– The New Castle Community YMCA has introduced Family Fun Nights, free family activity nights that are open to the community. Organizers will hold the first event on Friday, Jan. 18 at the downtown branch from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
“We want to give local families an opportunity to connect with one another, and other families, through fun and creative activities,” said Maria McKee, YMCA CEO. “We’ll offer a free family-focused event each month with various themes and activities.”
McKee says January’s event will turn down the lights and turn up the fun with Family Glow-Ga (glow-in-the-dark yoga).  Participants are encouraged to wear white or neon colored clothing to maximize the glow. Yoga mats will be available; however, participants are welcome to bring their own.
In addition Family Glow-Ga, January’s event will include fun New Year’s themed activities, crafts, and healthy snacks generously donated by Apple Castle and El Canelo. Plus, every family who attends will have a chance to win door prizes, including a one month family membership at the New Castle Community YMCA.
As part of the Y’s commitment to being open to all, these events will be free and open to the community. The Y does ask that families pre-register, to help with planning and supplies. Participants can register online at or by calling 724-658-4766.
Upcoming Family Fun Nights include a Valentine’s Day themed event on Friday, February 15 and a St. Patrick’s Day themed event on Friday, March 15. Both events will be held at the downtown branch from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
