NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College football team lost, 35-14, to No. 18 Case Western Reserve University at home Saturday night for its first Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) loss of the season.

The Titans dropped to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the PAC, while the Spartans improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Case Western quickly found the end zone on its third play of game and less than a minute into the contest as Drew Saxton found Sam Jenkins for an 81-yard touchdown pass. After Robertson Albrecht’s extra point, the Spartans led 7-0.

Early in the second quarter, Titan senior Shamon Walker (Pittsburgh, PA / Milton Hershey) found classmate Jaevon Hardy (Waldorf, MD / North Point) through the air for a 42-yard touchdown, capping off a 3-play, 54-yard drive. Sophomore John Cybak’s (Massillon, OH / Tuslaw) point-after-touchdown tied the game at 7 with 11:11 remaining in the first half. Westminster’s defense forced a three-and-out on Case Western’s ensuing drive, highlighted by a sack by senior John Fitzgerald (Youngstown, OH / Youngstown East). The Titans then conducted a 12-play, 59-yard drive, capped off with a one-yard run by Walker to give Westminster a 13-7 lead. Cybak’s extra point made it 14-7 with 3:26 to play in the second quarter.

Saxton threw his second touchdown of the game on the Spartans’ next possession after a 6-play, 65-yard drive. This time Saxton found Justin Phan for an 18-yard score. Albrecht’s kick knotted the game at 14 with 1:01 remaining in the half.

Case Western regained its lead on its first possession of the second half, following a 10-play, 81-yard drive. Saxton connected with Phan again with an 18-yard touchdown. Albrecht’s PAT put the Spartans ahead 21-14 with 9:22 left in the third. Saxton added another touchdown later in the fourth quarter, finding Colt Morgan from three yards out. Zach Hall scored the last touchdown of the game with an 18-yard run.

The Spartans outgained the Titans in total yards 460 (330 passing, 130 rushing) to 304 (176 passing, 128 rushing). Titan junior Connor Cox (Ridge, MD / Leonardtown) caught a career- and team-high seven passes for a team-high 79 yards. Walker led the Titans on the ground with 16 carries for 53 yards and a touchdown.

Senior Bill Madeja (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) led the Westminster defense as he tied a career-high 12 tackles. Senior John Fitzgerald (Youngstown, OH / Youngstown East) registered a career-high 10 tackles, including his second sack of the season. Junior Paul Gonzalez (Miami, FL / Florida Christian) added nine tackles. Sophomore Nicholas Casadei (Lake Worth, FL / Park Vista) added a sack. Senior Marvin Liberiste (Naples, FL / Lely) pocketed an interception, his team-leading third on the year.
Saxton finished the day 25-of-34 for 330 yards and four touchdowns. Phan tallied 10 receptions for 128 yards and two scores.

The Titans are back in action Saturday, October 6 when they travel to Grove City College. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
